Cooking and baking
These days, ovens can be provided with an infinite choice of functions. The manufacturers’ palette always aims to meet the needs and cooking habits of each individual person, whether that calls for a simple cooker or a combination appliance with steam functions or an integrated microwave oven; automatic programmes, retractable operating buttons or touch–sensitive controls; self-cleaning systems and no-handle designs.
Steam ovens and Steamers
These days, vapour or steam cookers are practically indispensable in any modern kitchen. Steaming allows you to cook whole meals (not just the vegetables) gently and up to almost 100°C – for optimum preservation of vitamins and other nutrients. Many steamers can also cook at a higher pressure than normal, taking on the function of a conventional pressure cooker.
Microwaves continue to be used heavily in most homes. However, they do not always have to be in the form of a freestanding piece of equipment that takes up space on your kitchen cabinets. Microwave cookers are also available as built-in appliances, which can be accommodated in an appliance cupboard to save space, giving you more work surface.
Hobs are made in different sizes and designs – from simple models for rented accommodation to elaborate cooking solutions with variable cooking positions for different pan sizes and automatic functions. Hobs are available in glass ceramic, induction or recessed cookertop styles.
